Pipeline Youth service is the name given to a variety of different projects and events that are funded under Thanet District Council. Pipeline is largely run as a voluntary service, and prides itself in being one of the largest voluntary youth services in South East England and provides services anywhere from After school clubs, football tournaments, mobile skate parks, football cages, surf trips, Friday Night Projects, Weekends away – the list is endless! Pipeline runs with the heart to reach every young person in Thanet aged 11-18 in some way so that they know that there is at least one group out there looking out for the best interest, rather than the isolation that can often be felt amongst young people today.
Pipeline also works closely with our church youth projects such as Jesus Revolution as well as The Vibe at Lark in the Park, this is so that we don’t lose contact with young people after a session but instead can give them the opportunity to get involved in a community that’s exciting and full of other young people going through similar things. So feel free to browse amongst many of things that Pipeline gets itself involved in and get involved too! Learn to skate, play some football or just do some freestyling – there’s a different world of activities at your fingertips!
Unfortunately the last trips to the beach for surfing are upon us, the evenings are drawing in and the clocks will soon be moved back. However, the Pipeline Autumn and Winter programme is definitely fuller than it has ever been, and we can’t wait to get rolling.
DOUBLE DECKER BUS_
Firstly, we are looking forward to taking our Double Decker Youth Bus out on Hang 10 five times a week. We have been unable to take it out as much as we would have liked to over the last few years so it’s something that we really wanted to change. It will be an important part of what we do in the winter as it means we can give a place a shelter for young people in the weather, as well as giving a hub of activity which hopefully will give us an increased opportunity to build relationships with young people around Thanet. SJ Andrew is taking on the role as our new bus manager and we are really excited to have her on board and part of the Pipeline team.
HANG 10_
The Hang 10 team will also be adding two more venues to their programme after being requested to work in Dumpton and Birchington. It is a great privilege to be asked to work in new areas, as it reflects the good work that already goes on and gives us an opportunity to impact the lives of more young people and their immediate communities. The Skatepark has also seen a new face attached to it with Rueben King joining the team and immediately making strides forward, impacting the project. One massive thing has been the introduction of a Hang 10 Skatepark facebook account. This enables the guys to communicate with the young people and generate new interest in the project, as well as displaying photos and videos from sessions – account: Skatepark Hang Ten. We are working on lesson plans and tutorials in order to help young people get into and improve their skateboarding skills. These are really exciting steps for the team and the future is definitely looking bright for the Skatepark, even if the weather isn’t for the next few months.
ROCK SCHOOL_
Rock School has also seen changes over the past few months as it has moved to the new offices. It runs 4 times a month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays and Saturdays and offers free instrument and band tuition for any child aged between 9 – 18. Rock School is a great place for young people who are really passionate about music to come together and get the chance to learn an instrument they never would be able to, and to form bands of their own with a view of recording or performing. It also gives us another great chance to connect and communicate with more young people with areas just to hang out if you just want to listen or even just jamming together there are always opportunities to be had.
